This site provides a dynamic map (via a simple fill-in form) of any street location in the United States. In addition, if you provide a starting point and a destination point, it will provide both a map and written directions. Students can plan a trip (using those math skills!) and learn about geography at the same time.
This is a fun site for "kids of all ages" and provides ample opportunities for students (even at a very early age) to get involved with EMail from the Cat himself, Seuss trivia, Seuss games, and even a chance to win a Seuss Hat!!!
Mathematics is not a man's exclusive domain, although most people would probably paint a picture of the mathematician as male. These and other stereotypes are debunked at this site. In addition, you will find suggestions on how to get female students more involved in mathematics.
How do you answer the kids who say, "I'm bored!" or "There's nothing to do!" this summer? In her cyber-article, Linda C. Joseph answers that question by proposing a "Cyberspace Summer Camp."
With the advent of the Web, students may now express themselves electronically. But does this mean one merely displays text and graphics on a monitor instead of on paper? In her cyber-article, Kathleen Rutkowski argues that the Web is a separate medium that does not simply mimic the print version of student newspapers or magazines. She goes on to highlight three student publications that form the Web Publishing Honor Roll.
Each student will use the internet to gather information about the counties of Pennsylvania. The information will be entered into a class-designed database and an "electronic" report will be presented to the class. The presentation will be included in the student's portfolio.
Our prototype site will provide critiques and ratings of a variety of educational sites. Readers ("surfers") will have the opportunity to respond to the proposed rating and to offer additional site addresses.
